Happy Birthday Brin!!!

So, in the past 14 years so much has happened and so much has changed in our lives. We have made some great memories to look back on. The BEST memories are that of my kids. I am so blessed to have them! Beyond all the fighting, bickering, and whining are some great kids. I look at them and wonder how they have turned out so good thus far considering what I have done to them. They sure are resilient. I can't believe how fast time goes by. Brin turned 14-year-old last week! Wow! I felt kinda bad because she really didn't have any surprises for her birthday. She went shopping with me and picked most everything out and her dad was taking her shopping on her birthday. So, I decided to have a surprise birthday breakfast with some of her friends. She was quite surprised and it was a lot of fun! It seems like just yesterday that Brinlee was doing the Barney stomp as she chanted BARNEY, BARNEY, BARNEY while watching her favorite dinosaur on TV. Another favorite memory of Brin, is at the age of 2 to 4 she would walk around the house singing ear piercing opera!!! Don't know where she got it from but she thought she had the most beautiful opera voice and she used it daily until I was ready to pull my hair out. I am so thankful for these wonderful memories to look back on. Brin has always been such a happy and easy child and and I am thankful for her! She does so much to help out around the house. She always has a positive attitude regardless of the situation. She is so diligent with reading her scriptures. She is such a great example to me. She has a strong testimony of the gospel and I feed off of it. Who would know that a daughter could be stronger than her mother. She is more than a mother could ever want in a daughter! I LOVE YOU BRIN!! Happy Birthday

I am a blog slacker!! It's about time I give an update. We have had an extremely busy Winter! Brock and Chance both wrestled with the Junior High and they both did extremely well! It is amazing how much they improve in one season. They enjoyed it but had little time for anything else with practice five days a week and wrestling tournaments almost every weekend. Brock had the opportunity to wrestle in the state wrestling tournament the end of January in Richfield. Chance couldn't because he isn't old enough. It was such an awesome experience for Brock. He made it to the championship round where they wrestle off for 1st and 2nd place. For the kids who made it to the championship round, they did smoke and lights and had the kids run out while they announced their name, wt.,where they are from, and their parents name. It was really cool! Brock wrestled extremely well but lost his last match. He took 2nd place and we are so proud of him! I love wrestling especially when I am watching my boys. It is such an awesome sport. I think it teaches them so much. I was hoping that they would have had enough wrestling once they finished up with junior high but they wanted to move on to Bantam. So....we have now started Bantam and won't have a break until the end of April...yippeee....then we get a weekend off!

We are also having an experience of a life time!!!! We have a foster girl living with us. Her name is Bailey and she is 14. She has been here since the end of December. It has been a real tough go! Just hoping to survive it!

I am still looking for a job. It just seems like I may never find work. There just isn't anything available. I had an interview with Barnes Bullets but unfortunately, didn't get the job. I guess the Lord has something else in mind. I am just getting a bit worried because I am really enjoying being at home.

Brin's knee is doing much better. She is finished with physical therapy and working on getting in shape for softball. The season starts in a couple of months and the dr. gave her the okay to ride bikes and do some light jogging. She can't wait...she LOVES softball!

Don't mind the videographer's commentary on this video!!! Mom was a little bit anxious!

Brin had surgery last Friday (1 week ago). A couple of years ago she dislocated her knee cap. Apparently, it tore the ligament that holds her knee cap in place. For the past couple of years her knee cap would randomly dislocate. So we have been anticipating this surgery so that she can get back to normal and play softball again. Last year she dislocated her knee on her very first game. She was able to play the remainder of the season but had to have a runner. Dr. Wallentine is an awesome orthopedic surgeon who has also operated on Brock and Wade. He had to cut one of the ligaments on one side of her knee cap because it was pulling too tight and this is part of the reason her knee cap was dislocating. He then had to use a cadaver ligament to rebuild the one that was torn. She also had some cartildge that was floating around in there that had to be removed. We thought that they would be able to do the surgery by scope but they couldn't. She has an incision about 5 inches long. She will be on crutches for about 6 weeks or so. She is hobbling around fine except she can be such a maniac. The other day she fell right on her knee...ouch. Of course I was gone Christmas shopping and she was home alone. I was hesitant to leave for this very reason. She is okay...just a clutz!

Young Women's coat drive

Young Women's coat drive
A couple of weeks ago we had a young women's activity. The beehives did a coat drive. I took all them around the ward and we collected coats, gloves, hats, blankets, etc. I was expecting some of the girls to complain and whine because it wasn't the most fun activity and we did it in frigid temperatures. I was surprised to hear many of the girls say how much fun they had. They were so glad to help out and knew that these coats etc. were going to someone who really needed them. I mentioned to them that the girls were cold and people who needed these coats to keep from freezing to death didn't have a warm place to go warm up like we were able to after. The activity was very successful. We took Wade's truck and we were able to collect an entire truck full. People are so generous. We even had people offer to give us money to donate. Afterwards, we went to my house and had hot chocolate and pumpkin cookies. Wade's grandpa goes to one of the homeless shelters for Thanksgiving and Christmas and serves them and gives out coats and blankets to those in need. I called him and he took me to the homeless shelter to drop these off. The beehives and my kids wanted to go to the shelter to drop these off but we decided it would be best to not take them. I explained to them that the people in the homeless shelter are not proud to be there and Shep (Wade's grandpa) agreed. He said they may feel like animals in a zoo. So the kids and I went with Shep and we dropped these off. Even though we didn't get to see what it was like for these unfortunate people to live in this shelter it was still a great experience to see just how blessed we really are.

There really is a Santa Claus!

There really is a Santa Claus!
Friday we came home from a Christmas party to find that Santa brought us an early Christmas present. Someone dropped off two boxes full of food, a huge turkey, a big bag of potatos, sleds for the kids, an Uno Attack game for our family, hats and gloves for the kids. I couldn't believe it. The kids and I were so excited that someone was so generous! When we thought it couldn't get any better, Chance opened up the card that was inside one of the boxes and yelled "holy cow mom they gave us 100 bucks!" I just started to cry. (crying again as I am typing this). We are soooo blessed! I think the Lord wants us to take a step back and be more grateful for the things that we do have. Three months ago, I just kept thinking to myself that being laid off could not have come at a worse time (not that there is ever a good time for it when you are a single mom) with Christmas coming. Being unemployed has been a very humbling experience for me and my kids. We haven't been able to pick up and go do whatever we want and we have to be quite thrifty. The kids and I have talked many times about it. The boys often say that we are poor and I have to remind them that we are not poor. We have everything that we need, we have a house, food, and clothes and most importantly we have each other. Brinlee has joked that we are the new charity family of the ward. I have to say that it is hard to accept help as I have always been an independent person but it is so great to know that when you do need help there are many people more than willing to reach out. So many people in our ward and our family have been so great to us. I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone! It has made our Christmas so much brighter to see all the giving and wonderful people we are surrounded by. It makes all of us want to do more for others because it makes us so happy that so many people have done so much for us. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
